When Ludovic heard of his grandfather’s story he dreamt of following in his footsteps. An adventure that would connect him with a man he admired but never met.
The plan is to do as Lajos did, walk from Irkutsk to Budapest, look for work on farms and occasionally accept rides in return. At times he will forgo the comfort of modern camping gear and wear and carry only what Lajos would have had.
Along the way he will look for evidence of men like Lajos who escaped and made it back home to Europe. This will be done with the help of historians in Russia and Europe.
The walk will be broken up into 3 or 4 trips, mostly to keep some sanity in his family life but also to catch up on the latest research before hitting the road again.
At the end the plan is to gather as many descendants of these men together in Budapest to celebrate and remember those for whom they would not be here today.
We also plan to use the walk to raise money for charity.
